MARCH 3, 2025 — The following message was sent to all faculty and staff from Taylor Eighmy, president of 世界杯官方app and acting president of UT Health San Antonio:
I recently shared information regarding our university’s new executive cabinet—a leadership team that unites leaders from both 世界杯官方app and UT Health San Antonio in anticipation of our forthcoming integration. To ensure those leaders are well-equipped for a successful start, I am making some divisional adjustments to help our teams gradually evolve and prepare for change.
The following divisions and leaders, alongside many of our colleagues, will begin their work during this transition phase in preparation for Day 1 of integration on September 1, 2025.
Research
As previously announced, JoAnn Browning has decided to step down as interim vice president of research to focus on leading the National Science Foundation’s Network Coordination Office for the Natural Hazards Engineering Research Infrastructure program and serving as the new chair of the reinforced concrete building code committee for the American Concrete Institute. Effective March 17, Jennifer Potter, current senior vice president of research for UT Health San Antonio, will assume the interim vice president role to provide shared leadership among both institutions, while laying the groundwork for our merged state. She will serve in the interim capacity through the end of August. On September 1, she will lead the newly combined research enterprise.
University Relations, Marketing and Communications
After four years of service leading the Division of University Relations, Teresa Niño is leaving the university. I’m deeply grateful for her contributions to our campus community and wish her well in her future endeavors. Effective March 1, Kimberly Maldonado will serve as interim vice president of marketing and communications. In this role, she will provide leadership, administration and direction for our university strategic communications and university marketing and special projects teams to prepare for building a new division of marketing and communications. Effective September 1, Heather Adkins, current senior vice president and chief marketing and communications officer at UT Health San Antonio, will lead the new division.
Government Relations
Between now and September 1, our government relations colleagues will report directly to me to support our shared efforts throughout the 89th legislative session. Effective September 1, Carlos Martinez will lead the new division of government relations as senior vice president.
West Side Community Center
Effective March 1, colleagues in the West Side Community Center will report to Carlos Martinez. Together, they will chart a path that continues to serve our community partners while evolving to serve our expanded mission.
Information Management and Technology
Effective September 1, University Technology Services (UTS) will join the Division of Business Affairs. Vice President for Information Management and Technology Kendra Ketchum and Executive Vice President for Business Affairs and Chief Enterprise Development Officer Veronica Salazar and their teams will begin working together to scale our technology enterprise.
As I’ve shared many times, our work toward integration with UT Health San Antonio is an immense undertaking, and we need each of you to realize our shared vision. Please continue to visit our integration website and share your thoughts through our feedback form.
Also, we will be hosting area town halls throughout the month of March to address and answer questions around merger and integration, the 89th legislative session, the evolving federal landscape and ideas for the future. These sessions will be an opportune time for you to hear from your leaders and engage in dialogue around your team’s contribution to our mission, especially given the evolving landscape. More details on these town halls will be shared soon.
